Mayor Paine: Streets and Sidewalks Platform:
Our transportation network was designed nearly 100 years ago for a population four times our size. People move through the 21st century in different ways.   Expanded access to public transportation and active transportation enfranchises lower-income families and provides vital stability to many workers, students, and senior citizens.

Wide, paved bike and pedestrian paths are inexpensive to build, connect students to schools, workers to jobs, customers to shops and restaurants, and communities to nature.  We should start with a cross-city trail between the Millennium Trail and the Osaugie Trail.

We need to finally create a truck route around the city to make Belknap Street safter and last longer.  we should eventually divert all through trucks around the city and reclaim Hwy 2 as East 2nd Street to improve the neighborhoods and business climate of Allouez, Itasca, and East End.  We will develop a long term comprehensive plan that maintains our infrastructure in the short term but gradually allows more significant changes in the long term.
