March 2020: FMCSA Event Recap

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the FMCSA update!

On February 19th, 47 people gathered at Pier B for an update from Matthew Marrin. Matthew Marrin is the Minnesota Division Administrator for the FMCSA. Matthew talked about the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse, ELDT/CDL Military Pilot Program, ELD Compliance, and HOS Relief Proposed Rules. The Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse was the biggest topic for obvious reasons. He gave us some background on what was happening and why there were so many issues on implementation and at times still. Matthew also covered how they are using the data based on risk levels. FMCSA wants to help correct patterns of risky companies that are heading toward the high-risk category before they become a high-risk carrier. The presentation was very informative and timely.

The DSTA also had a check presentation from the DSTA to the UWS Foundation for the DSTA Scholarship Fund Endowment. The check presented was for $5,500 and brings the total endowment to $20,000. The board set the goal of growing the endowment to $20,000 in 2020 adn the goal was achieved. Thank you so much to all of the companies (and individuals) who have believed in the cause and come together to do so much more! The DSTA Scholarship fund was established to give scholarships to UWS students enrolled in the T&L program. It is a great way to encourage students to enroll in the program and help fulfill the needs of the transportation industry. So far, 2 scholarships have been awarded and many more are planned for the future.
