President’s Note
As the summer sunsets and we transition into the crisp, colorful days of
autumn, I wanted to take a moment to recap some of the wonderful events of the summer and share some exciting news about upcoming events.
Summer Highlights:
• Twin Ports Intermodal Conference: Our community came together
to discuss infrastructure readiness in the Twin Ports with various
expert presentations on road readiness, workforce readiness and port
readiness.
• Fill-a-Truck, Feed-a-Family Food & Fund Drive: Our annual food
drive was hit! The help of all our volunteers raised more than $12,000
and 5,000 pounds of food that was donated to Second Harvest
Northland and other local food shelves.
• DSTA Golf Outing: We enjoyed a perfect day outside, played for
prizes, networked with other members, and raised another $1,050 for
UWS scholarships.
Upcoming Events:
• FMCSA Update (October 16th): Mark your calendars! Matt Marin has
been promoted and we will have a new speaker, Chuck St. Martin.
Meeting is at Barkers Island Inn & Conference Center at 5:00-7:00PM.
See attached form and come out for networking, food, refreshments
and hear some new topics from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety
Administration
• Annual Election/Holiday Party (December 6th): Don’t get your
hunting clothes too dirty this fall, this year’s theme for the party is
camo! In addition to the election, this annual celebration will be filled
with fun, food and prizes. Party is at Black Bear Casino Resort, so
book a room if needed.
• Sadie Ann (postponed to 2025): All aboard!!! This state-of-the-art
floating classroom tour is expected to arrive on Lake Superior soon.
Unfortunately, the research vessel did not arrive in time for us to
schedule an event this season – so look for more to come next year.
If you have any suggestions or ideas for future events or initiatives, please do not hesitate to reach out. Stay tuned for more details on these events and
other exciting announcements. Thank you for your continued support and
dedication to the DSTA.
Warm regards,
Richie Rochel, DSTA President ‘
