THE DSTA IN JANUARY

By President Leyla Aktekin
It seems like just yesterday that I was penning my thoughts on our 2016 gathering and here we are, a full year later!

Our 2017 Holiday Gathering was held at the new Pier B Re-sort on Friday, January 6th. Guests dined on their choice of Cabernet-Braised Short Ribs, Grilled Chicken, Herb-Crusted Walleye or Truffle Mac n’ Cheese while listening to some great tunes provided by DJ Jazzy Jay Baker.

A short program followed dinner where we welcomed Sue Boudrie the operations manager at Ikonics Advanced Mate-rials Solutions division, the Duluth company’s quickly-growing aerospace arm, to our membership. Sue is also the 2017 Chairperson for NAA, the Northern Aero Alliance which is comprised of organizations such as the Duluth International Airport, Cirrus Aircraft, Kestrel Aircraft and others who share a passion for aviation. Carl recapped his year as president, and was presented with a plaque thank-ing him for his service. As far as 2017 goes, plans were shared about the creation of an annual DSTA Scholarship, growing our membership with emphasis on aerospace, rail and water, and continuing the great work and community involvement that has gone on in years past.

Following the program, we had a blast gambling with Ryan and his crew from All-In Casino Parties. Vouchers were ex-changed for chips, chips were exchanged for tickets, and tickets were drawn for several outstanding prizes including a 48” TV, iPad, $250 certificate to Superior Meats, Duluth Airshow VIP tickets, Duluth Pack satchel, and a three hour gambling night with All-In Casino Parties anywhere in Wis-consin or Minnesota (one table/dealer).
